The differences between a wood, gas and electric fire
Are you faced with the choice of which fire suits you best? If so, it is important to know the differences between the various fires. Here is a brief overview of the main differences between gas, wood and electric fires.
Efficiency and power
The power output of the different fires depends on the size of the fire. The efficiency of the electric fire is the highest. This is because no heat is lost through the chimney as is the case with wood fires. The gas fire achieves higher efficiency than the wood fire. Making sure you fire the wood fire responsibly will easily increase its efficiency. Good to know; not every electric fire is suitable to serve as space heating, but
DRU electric fires are!
Environmentally friendly fire
The most environmentally friendly option? That's the electric fire. This fire emits nothing and therefore does not burden the environment. The wood fire is also relatively environmentally friendly when fired correctly. The gas fire is the least environmentally friendly of the three, but if you take
measures to use less gas, you will reduce its emissions.
Easy stoking
Ever made and kept a fire yourself? Quite a lot of time goes into that. Although for many people it brings atmosphere and experience, the wood fire is by far the most difficult and time-consuming to light. The gas fire and electric fire, on the other hand, go on at the push of a button. This also makes it easier to regulate the intensity of the fire.
The placement options
The placement options for fires vary quite a bit depending on the situation. For convenience, we will discuss the placement options for a new situation and for an existing situation.
New situation
In a new situation, there are many options, but if you want a gas or wood fire, you need to take into account a flue. It varies per situation whether it is possible to install one and you are also not free to choose where the fire will be placed. The electric fire, on the other hand, is not dependent on a flue. In a new situation, you can therefore place this fire anywhere in your home.
Existing situation
In an existing situation - with a flue - it is fairly easy to install a new gas or wood fire. Keep in mind that not every flue is the same. Find out if yours fits the fire you have in mind. Installing an electric fire in an existing situation is certainly possible, but slightly more complex. This is because the electric fire has to be built in. This means that it is inevitable to make adjustments to the existing situation before it is suitable for the electric fire.
Cost of stoking and purchase
Generally speaking, the wood fire is the cheapest to buy, but this does not differ much from buying a gas or electric fire. Looking at consumption, the electric fire is by far the cheapest to fire. Currently, gas is the most expensive fuel of the three. However, there are also costs involved in installing the fire and converting the situation.
