A wood fire does not have only advantages. We list the pros and cons of a wood-burning stove.

The pros and cons of a wood-burning stove

+ The smell, crackling fire and lively flames create a unique atmosphere in your home;
+ Wood is a relatively cheap fuel;
+ Wood is a renewable fuel and when you fire properly with wood that comes from responsible forests, you are heating with consideration for the environment
+ A wood fire is cheap to buy;
+ Link your wood fire to the central heating system and use the heat from your fire to heat both your home and water.

- It is more work to fire a wood fire. Think about collecting fuel, maintaining the fire and cleaning the fireplace;

The modern gas fire

Bringing atmosphere and warmth into your home at the push of a button is possible with a gas fire. With a gas fire you may not hear the crackling wood, but when you choose a gas fire you enjoy an optimal interplay between function, atmosphere and durability. A lot of time and craftsmanship goes into the development of our DRU gas fires, making them almost indistinguishable from a real wood fire.

Heating your home efficiently? Then a gas fire is the best choice for you. After all, a gas fire only heats the room you live in and because of the presence of a thermostat, you only heat up to the temperature you set. Besides, you can easily control the gas consumption of the fireplace with Eco Wave without affecting the atmosphere in your home.

- A gas fire is generally more expensive to buy than a wood fire, for example, there are often more installation costs involved;
- Gas is a fossil fuel, so it is not infinite and runs out. In addition, gas prices fluctuate, so the energy bill can be higher than you expect. So choose a gas fireplace with (the option of) (bio-)propane as fuel.

Here's what to look out for when buying a gas fire

Gas fireplace or wood-burning stove; which one will you choose?

Although our gas fires are almost indistinguishable from a real wood fire, there are definitely differences between them. We list the main differences between a gas fire and wood fire so you can make the best choice for your living situation.

Wood vs gas

Ease of use
The gas fire is considerably easier to use. At the touch of a button on the stove's remote control or on the app, you turn on the gas fire and let the fire burn harder or softer.

A wood fire, on the other hand, takes more time to light. First of all, you need to make sure you have enough fuel. You can gather wood yourself, but this is usually also available at the hardware store. Next, you light the fire yourself and have to keep it going by providing the fire with new fuel and the right amount of oxygen.

Atmosphere and experience
Nothing beats the atmosphere and experience of a real fire, but the flames of the DRU gas fires are almost indistinguishable from the real thing. Would you like to enjoy the authentic smell of wood fire? Then a wood fire will suit you best.

Environmental friendliness
A gas fire achieves a higher efficiency than a wood fire. This means that less fuel is needed to keep the fire burning. A gas fire has the most efficient burning, but gas is a fossil fuel which means that gas is not infinite. In contrast, it is possible with the DRU conversion guarantee to convert your gas fire to a Biogas (methane and propane) fire so you can enjoy the fire for years to come while keeping your energy bills low.

Burning a wood fire releases smoke containing harmful substances. Wood, on the other hand, is a renewable fuel. With a wood fire, you can achieve a high return by buying the right fire and stoking it responsibly. In addition, it is possible to connect the wood fire to the central heating system, thus heating not only your house but also the water with the heat from the fire. So less heat is lost!
