Wood:
Traditionally homely yet ecologically responsible

An authentic wood stove is cosy and wonderfully warm. For many people, nothing beats the atmosphere of a real wood fire and the sounds of crackling wood. Plus, you are completely independent of the energy grid.
Besides all these advantages, there are still doubts about wood-burning. Questions about legislation and wood choice. That is why we have listed all the important information and tips for you. See why these uncertainties are totally unnecessary and how you can continue to enjoy a cosy wood fire!

Firing green? Yes you can!

Green firing is easy, anyone can do it. See how you can burn green with these five tips!

1. A modern efficient stove
A modern, efficient stove is essential for green heating. A modern stove complies with the EcoDesign 2022 legislation. This means that the stove has an efficiency of at least 75% and emissions of no more than 40 mg/m³. In other words, almost no heat is lost and the stove has minimal emissions.

2. Professional installation
Make sure the stove is installed by a professional installer. This will not only ensure that your stove meets all safety standards, but also that it burns as efficiently as possible.
3. Use the right kind of wood
Before lighting your stove, always check that you are using the right kind of wood. For example, do not use maple wood. Also make sure the wood is clean and dry, with humidity below 20%. Always use the right amount of wood, too.

4. Stoking consciously
Just as important as the stove and the fuel are you, the user. When firing wood, always use the Swiss method. This allows you to burn the wood as efficiently and cleanly as possible. Before firing, check that the weather conditions are right. Avoid stoking in windless or foggy weather, for example, so that the smoke can blow away properly.
5. Regular maintenance
To ensure that your stove continues to burn efficiently, it should be well maintained.
Remove ash from the stove but keep a small layer as insulation and clean the windows when they get dirty so that no soot is left behind.
Also have your chimney cleaned annually by a professional. And does the stove need major maintenance? Make sure this too is done by a professional. With these tips, your stove will burn as clean as possible.

Wood, a renewable fuel

Wood is a perfect fuel choice because it is completely renewable and climate-neutral.  While growing, a tree absorbs CO2, and when burning, this CO2 is released again.

Through sustainable forest management, trees are harvested selectively, which promotes the growth of the entire forest and nature. In recent years, forest areas within Europe have grown by 5.3%.
Fuel for wood can also be collected from tree plantations, where trees are grown specifically for their wood. For the best firewood, buy wood from local sources. This reduces transport and lowers your carbon footprint.

What wood is good for the stove?

Emissions from a wood-burning stove

Did you know that 80% of pollution is caused by older (+15 years) stoves? Modern stoves are no match for old stoves or fireplaces. Modern stoves harness all possible heat from your wood. In addition, you also have:

  • Control over the air supply
  • Optimised combustion process
  • High efficiency (up to 80-90%)
  • Low particulate emissions

Complete control over your heating

By purchasing wood, you know exactly how much you spend at each heating time. An efficient stove also extracts the most heat from the wood, so you can stay warm all evening with just a few logs.  So you have complete control over your heating costs with a modern wood stove.
In addition, you are also completely independent of the energy grid, so even in the event of a possible failure, you are never without heat.
