How much energy does a gas fire consume?

Unfortunately there is no standard answer to the question of how much energy a gas fire consumes. This is because consumption depends on both the capacity of the fire and the level of use. Naturally, if you constantly have the fire at maximum output it will consume more than if you use it at a low setting. Nevertheless, we can give you an indication with the example below.

As a rule, we can say that a fire of +/- 7 kW uses approximately 1 cubic metre per hour at its highest setting. The price of an evening enjoying your fire depends on current gas prices and the number of hours that you use the fire. Assuming a gas price of £0.55 pence per hour and 4 hours at maximum capacity, you can assume approximately £2 per evening.
